Hartlepool Borough Council has recently received funding from the Government’s ‘Local Sustainable Transport Fund’ to help encourage people to travel more sustainably, particularly those who travel to work. Studies clearly show that walking and cycling is good for the individual, the environment and good for business!
The Council is working with businesses in Hartlepool to promote travelling by bus, bike or walking. We can offer cut price bike maintenance, cycle training to build confidence including a bespoke ‘home to work’ service. We are also helping overcome wider barriers, for example putting together packages to improve walking and cycling routes. To encourage more cycling and walking we are organising fun ‘come and try it’ events at workplaces with novelty bikes, on hand maintenance advice and Bikeability trainers. Finally we are hosting challenge events for prizes, an event held in June saw local company, Northgate-IS win bike storage facilities.
