A SPECIAL event is being held in Hartlepool on Thursday 12th November to offer advice and support to the workers made redundant from the town’s Caparo steel forge plant.
nSeventy-nine workers have recently been made redundant and a further 13 are expected to follow soon following the announcement that the company has gone into liquidation.
nThe drop-in event will be held at the Grand Hotel, Swainson Street between 10am and 2pm when all the key organisations will be present including Hartlepool Council, Job Centre Plus and the National Careers Service.
nCouncillor Kevin Cranney, chair of the Council’s Regeneration Services Policy Committee, said: “The loss of almost 100 jobs at Caparo is devastating news for the workforce, their families and the town as a whole.
n“As a council we are working with all of our key partner organisations to provide advice, support and help to all those affected.
n“This will include help with searching for alternative employment, training opportunities, benefits and welfare advice and emotional support.
n“We hope that as many people as possible take the opportunity to attend the drop-in event where they will be able to talk to a range of specialists about the various help available.
n“We would also like to hear from any companies that have job opportunities so that we can make sure the former Caparo employees aware of these. Companies can call us on (01429) 857079.”
