Would you be interested in becoming a school or academy governor?

School governors are one of largest volunteer forces in the country and play a vital role in raising and maintaining educational standards. They set the vision, ethos and strategic direction of their organisation; hold head teachers, executive leaders and senior management teams to account for educational performance; and make sure that finances are managed effectively. Good governance is a fundamental characteristic of high-performing schools. 

Business leaders have many of the skills required to support a successful school, college or academy and can bring additional expertise to help develop the workforce of tomorrow and inspire new captains of industry. This is recognised by the government who are encouraging schools to recruit governors from the business sector to help bring a more professional approach to school governance.

A number of our leading companies already have people serving on governing boards in Hartlepool schools and several others are keen to recruit governors from the local business sector.
