Ambitious regeneration programmes currently underway

Key regeneration programmes are currently underway in several areas of the town which will improve the town as both a business and tourism location.

Hartlepool Borough Council is behind the initiative to transform the Church Street area into a hub for creative industries which includes the former Post Office building in Whitby Street being converted into a £3m business centre called The BIS (Business Innovation & Skills)..

n

n

The BIS is due to open in summer 2018 and will provide business incubation facilities in the creative industries sector and specialist support. The centre will fill a gap in the market offering office and workshop space and will be an ideal location for design graduates from nearby Cleveland College of Art and Design.

n

Other work on Church Street and Church Square includes enhancing the existing Conservation Area architecture and creating a more open, pedestrian-friendly area. The footpath along the south of the street will be widened to accommodate an increased number of people walking to the new Cleveland College of Art and Design campus.

n

n

Two-way traffic will be maintained together with a number of parking bays and the new layout will also allow for the area to be closed off and used as an event space.

n

n

Seaton Carew is also being revitalised with a new beachfront and promenade development to support existing businesses and will see the addition of new attractions. This work is due for completion in April 2018.

n

Building on the success of the stunning artwork depicting images of Hartlepool which were recently installed at the railway station, Church Street and Seaton Carew will see the two more pieces of public art in keeping with the ethos of the areas.

n

n

In the pipeline is the regeneration of the Waterfront area which will see the area developed into a landmark destination with a mix of cultural, leisure and visitor attractions building on the existing tourist offer.
