Wednesday afternoons 1.30pm – 4.30pm
19th April - 7th June 2017 (8 x ½ days)
Week 1 - Equality & Diversity
Includes an understanding of equality & diversity and its impact on all aspects of the employment relationship from recruitment to dismissal together with the practical steps an organisation should take.
Week 2 - Recruitment & Selection
How to carry out a recruitment process including preparation of a job description and person specification, attracting applicants, selecting the best candidate for the job and making job offers.
Week 3 –Contracts & Rights in Employment
Includes employment status, preparing a written statement of employment particulars, the rights and responsibilities of both employer and employee, breach of contract and how variations to contractual terms can be managed. The module also explains the implications of the Data Protection Act on employers.
Week 4 - Performance Management & Reviews
Develop the knowledge and skills necessary for the delivery of a system of performance management including the legal implications, competencies, the process, giving feedback and setting objectives.
Week 5 - Developing Talent
How to engage and develop staff to ensure that your organisation gets the best from its most important resource. It includes identifying learning and development needs, developing a talent management strategy, coaching and mentoring and succession planning.
Week 6 - Managing for Attendance
This looks at the knowledge and techniques required to manage attendance in an organisation. It will address the legal implications and responsibilities of employers in dealing with employee absence and look at ways to increase improve attendance and wellbeing in the workplace.
Week 7 - Managing Discipline & Grievance
How to avoid problems in the workplace and how to manage disciplinary matters and grievances fairly and in line with the Acas Code of Practice.
Week 8 - Termination of Employment
This module will examine the reasons for termination of employment including redundancy and resignations in the heat of the moment. It will outline fair reasons for dismissal and the correct processes to follow.
