Document Verification Workshops - an employers guide from Cleveland Police
The Operation Fairway workshop aims to target insider threat and promote better identity document awareness within HR and recruitment departments of companies deemed potentially vulnerable to terrorist attack. Although your business may not fit this criteria it may reduce the impact of criminality on your business and that of others who you may provide labour.
The workshop aims to provide members of the public within these identified organisations with a basic document awareness and a certain amount of knowledge of the security features within documents. The application of a few simple, non-destructive tests can identify some of the more obvious forgeries and counterfeits.
"We do not have any problems with forged documents" This is an easy get out, but how do you know that you do not have a problem until you have received the advice that is delivered within this workshop.
Although not covered within the workshop, some of the advice provided may assist with checking other relevant qualifications.

The FAIRWAY presentation will commence with a brief update on the current threat of terrorism to the UK.
Following this some of the security features that will be discussed during the FAIRWAY presentation are;

• CHECK FOR COUNTERFITTING – This includes providing an awareness in relation to checking the cover and overall construction of a document, security features in the thread of a document, information on watermarks and the use of transmitted light.
• CHECK FOR PAGE SUBSTITUTION – Includes an insight into the alignment of pages, stitching within identity documents particularly passports and page reaction under UV light.
• CHECK FOR PHOTOGRAPH SUBSTITUTION – Safeguards over images within documents.
• CHECK FOR IMAGE SUBSTITUTION
• VISA CHECKS – Visas are secure documents in themselves and should have security features to the same standard as passports.
